KARACHI: Jaint Kumar, a Pakistani student at Altamash Institute of Dental Medicine (AIDM), is setting new benchmarks in global oral health leadership. He captivated audiences at the recently held Alliance for Oral Health Across Borders (AOHAB) Global Oral Health Leadership Alumni Event, leaving an indelible mark on the global dental and public health community.

Kumar, participating as a Student Spotlight speaker, detailed his transformative journey through the Student Leadership in Global Oral Health (SLGOH) Program 2025. This prestigious AOHAB initiative equips young professionals worldwide to tackle oral health disparities through research, leadership, and community engagement. His presentation wasn’t just a speech—it was a testament to how one student from Pakistan can influence global conversations and inspire actionable change.

The event attracted eminent leaders from across the world, including Dr. Matilde Hernandez, Senior Director of Professional Engagement and Scientific Affairs at Colgate (USA), Dr. Shaimaa Shihab, a Public Health Professional from UAE, and Dr. Hildah Nkonde, Dental Surgeon from Zambia. It became a vibrant platform for sharing innovative ideas and strategies to strengthen oral health systems globally.

Kumar’s presentation highlighted his award-winning research, “Smile Guardians: Oral Health Knowledge, Attitudes, and Practices of Individual Caregivers of Individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities in Karachi, Pakistan,” which earned Second Prize for Best Research Poster at the AADMD Conference 2025 in Phoenix, Arizona, competing among more than 80 international entries. The project shines a spotlight on the critical gaps in oral health knowledge among caregivers, advocating for structured training programs to enhance care for underserved populations.

Building on this success, Kumar is spearheading initiatives across special education centers in Karachi to raise parental and caregiver awareness, ensuring sustainable oral health support systems for individuals with disabilities and their families. Reflecting on his AOHAB journey, he emphasized the importance of mentorship, global collaboration, and proactive engagement in research, encouraging the incoming Class of 2026 to start early, network widely, and communicate ideas confidently on international stages.

“It is an honor to represent Pakistan on a global platform. My goal is to raise awareness and develop solutions at the intersection of oral health, technology, and disability, while addressing broader oral health challenges faced by communities,” said Jaint Kumar, underscoring his commitment to research, advocacy, and mentoring future global oral health leaders.

Kumar’s international recognition signals a new era for young Pakistani professionals in health leadership. His journey exemplifies how passion, research, and community-driven initiatives can not only elevate national prestige but also contribute meaningfully to global oral health advancement.
