LAHORE: The Department of Medical Education (DME) at Fatima Jinnah Institute of Dental Sciences (FJIDS), Lahore, organised a synopsis review meeting to support postgraduate residents enrolled in Fellowship of the College of Physicians and Surgeons (FCPS) and Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) programmes.
The session focused on helping residents develop and refine their research synopses, an important stage in postgraduate dental education and research planning.
The meeting was chaired by Professor Armaghan Mirza, Dean, Fatima Jinnah Institute of Dental Sciences.
Focus on postgraduate research preparation
The synopsis review was organised by Professor Waseem, Director Research Cell, and Dr Muhammad Azeem, Director, Department of Medical Education, with the aim of facilitating postgraduate residents in the preparation and review of their research synopses.
The session provided residents with an opportunity to discuss their proposed research topics and receive academic input during the synopsis-writing process.
Active participation by the postgraduate residents formed a key part of the meeting, with discussions centred on research topics and their development within the context of postgraduate dental training.
Clinical faculty contribute to research discussions
The involvement of clinical faculty added practical academic perspectives to the discussions, with faculty members providing insights relevant to the research topics presented by the residents.
Such interaction can help postgraduate trainees connect their clinical training with structured research planning and develop clearer approaches to their proposed studies.
The meeting also brought together the institute's Department of Medical Education, Research Cell and clinical faculty, reflecting a collaborative approach to supporting postgraduate research activities at FJIDS.

The meeting's focal persons included Dr Rida Anjum, Dr Sitara and their team, who supported the organisation and facilitation of the synopsis review session.
The engagement of residents, research leadership, medical education officials and clinical faculty provided a platform for academic discussion around postgraduate research proposals.
For FCPS and MDS residents, developing a well-structured synopsis is an important part of progressing from a research idea towards a formally planned postgraduate study. The FJIDS session therefore focused on providing academic support at this stage of the research process.
