LAHORE: The Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at Fatima Jinnah Institute of Dental Sciences (FJIDS), Lahore, recently brought together dental professionals from across Pakistan for an intensive one-day workshop focused on Minor Oral Surgery Skills, combining clinical teaching, practical training and live surgical demonstrations.

The workshop brought 35 participants from dental institutions across the country together for focused clinical learning aimed at enhancing their understanding and practical skills in minor oral surgery.

The programme centred on teaching, hands-on practice and demonstrations of surgical procedures on live patients, giving participants an opportunity to connect clinical knowledge with practical surgical experience.

Moving minor oral surgery training beyond theory

The workshop placed practical exposure at the centre of the learning experience, allowing participants to observe surgical procedures in a live clinical setting while engaging in hands-on training.

This combination of clinical instruction, practical experience and live demonstrations provided a learning environment focused on the application of minor oral surgery skills rather than theory alone.

Experienced oral and maxillofacial surgeons lead training

The workshop featured distinguished facilitators including Prof. Adnan Ali Shah, Prof. Armaghan Israr Mirza, Prof. Adnan Aslam, Prof. Waheed Tahir, Dr. Asif Nazir, Dr. Raffay Manan, Dr. M. Yousaf Ali, Dr. Saud Iqbal, Dr. Ahmed Abdul Haseeb and Dr. Sittara Javed.

Their participation brought experienced oral and maxillofacial surgeons into a single programme designed around practical clinical learning.

FJIDS departmental team supports practical learning

The programme was also supported by departmental facilitators from the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at FJIDS.

The departmental team comprised Dr. Bilal Yousaf, Dr. M. Azeem, Dr. Abru, Dr. Sidra Batool, Dr. Sohaib, Dr. Abdurehman, Dr. Nashra and Dr. Nida Niazi.

Their contribution supported the delivery of the workshop's hands-on and demonstration-based components.

Live surgical demonstrations add clinical dimension

A key feature of the programme was the demonstration of surgical procedures on live patients, giving participants exposure to procedures within an actual clinical environment.

Combined with hands-on practice, the demonstrations added a direct clinical dimension to the workshop and allowed participants to learn through observation and practical engagement.

FJIDS described the educational approach as “Teaching, Hands on Practise & live Surgical Demonstrations,” reflecting the programme's emphasis on experiential clinical learning.

A national platform for practical dental education

With 35 participants representing dental institutions from across Pakistan, the workshop provided a platform for clinicians and dental professionals from different parts of the country to engage in focused training in minor oral surgery.

The programme's emphasis on hands-on practice and live surgical demonstrations reflects the importance of practical exposure in developing and strengthening clinical skills.

For the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at FJIDS, the workshop represents an effort to impart clinical knowledge through a combination of teaching, hands-on practice and live surgical demonstrations, bringing dental professionals together around practical oral surgery education.
