White coats, big dreams: The dawn of Pakistan’s next-gen dentists at Dow
KARACHI: The future of Pakistan’s healthcare depends on the professionals we train today. In an era where patient care demands expertise, empathy, and innovation, preparing young dental professionals with the right skills and ethical grounding is crucial—not just for careers, but for the nation’s health.
Against this backdrop, Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) hosted its 2026 Orientation Day and White Coat Ceremony for newly admitted Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) students. More than a ceremonial welcome, the event symbolized the beginning of a professional journey grounded in ethics, skill development, and leadership—laying the foundation for a generation ready to meet Pakistan’s evolving healthcare challenges.
The ceremony opened with the recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by the National Anthem, establishing a spirit of commitment, respect, and national pride. Prof. Dr. Nazli Hossain, Vice Chancellor of DUHS, addressed the students, emphasizing that modern healthcare demands more than technical skill; it requires empathy, innovation, and leadership to make a meaningful impact on Pakistan’s public health landscape.

The event was meticulously organized by the DIKIOHS administration under Prof. Anwar Ali, Dr. Khurram Parvez, and Ms. Hanifa Soofi, with support from Dr. Faiza Amin and Dr. Qaisar, ensuring a seamless and inspiring experience for the students.
This ceremony reflects a commitment that transcends institutional boundaries: it signals Pakistan’s dedication to preparing a generation of healthcare professionals capable of driving change. Aligned with Sustainable Development Goals such as Good Health & Well-Being, Quality Education, Gender Equality, and Strong Institutions, the White Coat Ceremony represents the nation’s investment in empowering youth to become ethical, skilled, and visionary leaders in dental healthcare.
