Political, academic leaders to grace CPSP IMECon-26 pre-conference inauguration at LCMD
KARACHI: Pakistan’s medical education landscape is set to witness a rare convergence of political authority, academic leadership, and professional influence as Liaquat College of Medicine and Dentistry (LCMD) hosts the Inauguration Ceremony of the CPSP IMECon-26 Pre-Conference Workshop tomorrow, Saturday, January 10, 2026.
The ceremony precedes the CPSP International Medical Education Conference 2026 (IMECon-26) and places simulation-based education firmly in the national spotlight.
Leadership at the highest level
Headlining the inauguration is Senator Sarmad Ali, widely regarded as one of Pakistan’s most influential media visionaries and policy voices, whose presence brings cross-sector gravitas to the academic forum. His role as a senator and media leader underscores the growing intersection of education, policy, and public discourse in shaping future healthcare professionals.
Joining him as Chief Guest is Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Federal Minister for Education, whose participation reflects federal-level acknowledgment of the urgent need to modernize medical and dental education through innovation, faculty development, and global best practices.
Providing academic stewardship to the ceremony is Prof. Dr. Khalid Masood Gondal, President of the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP), whose leadership has been central to advancing postgraduate medical education and faculty training across Pakistan.
Senator Samina Mumtaz Zehri will also grace the inauguration ceremony of the pre-conference workshop, reflecting broader parliamentary engagement with healthcare education and institutional capacity building.

The inauguration will also be attended by a strong CPSP delegation, reinforcing the strategic importance of the pre-conference workshop. Senior leaders expected include Prof Ambreen Afzal (Vice President CPSP), Prof Mohammad Shoaib Shafi (Senior Vice President CPSP), Prof Mohammad Masroor (Treasurer CPSP), Prof Aamer Zaman Khan (Director General Medical Education CPSP), Prof Khalid Ashrafi and Prof Abdullah Muttaqi (Councilors CPSP), alongside Dr Sahar Zubair Abassi (Director DME CPSP) and Dr Shabnam Iqbal Memon (Assistant Professor DME CPSP).
Their collective presence highlights CPSP’s evolving vision to place educational excellence, patient safety, and competency-based learning at the core of postgraduate and faculty development.
Simulation-based education at the forefront
The pre-conference workshop, titled “Simulation-Based Education for Health Professions Educators,” will run from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM and focuses on the growing role of simulation in improving clinical competence, assessment, and patient safety.
Key areas include understanding simulation-based education, fidelity levels and types of simulation, essential components of effective simulation design, and the development of realistic clinical scenarios aligned with learning outcomes.

The workshop is being organized under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Navid Rashid Qureshi, Principal and Professor of Dentistry at LCMD and President PDA Karachi Chapter, with academic facilitation by Prof. Dr. Tahera Ayub, Dr. Naheed Najmi (Vice Principal LCMD), and Dr. Sabaa Shahid, Incharge DHPE-COD.
