KARACHI: Students from the Institute of Dentistry, Liaquat University of Medical & Health Sciences (LUMHS), delivered an impressive all-round performance at Dentalnnovate 3.0, securing multiple awards across scientific, academic, creative and digital competitions while reinforcing the university's growing reputation for excellence in undergraduate dental education and research.
Held at Expo Centre Karachi, Dentalnnovate 3.0 brought together dental students, educators, clinicians and researchers from across Sindh to compete in a wide range of academic and professional categories, including scientific paper presentations, research posters, table clinics, quizzes, photography, filmmaking and digital content creation.
The strong performance by the LUMHS delegation reflected the university's continued emphasis on evidence-based learning, interdisciplinary skills and student-led innovation—qualities that are becoming increasingly important in contemporary dental education.
LUMHS students win multiple awards across diverse categories
The LUMHS delegation earned recognition in several major competitions, highlighting excellence beyond conventional classroom learning.
Haris Aziz Memon achieved a remarkable double success by securing first position in the Visual Storytelling Competition and first position in the Social Media Ambassador Award, demonstrating excellence in science communication and digital engagement under the supervision of Dr Jazib Memon.
In the Table Clinic Competition, Saba Gul secured third position under the supervision of Dr Sarang, while Sameen Khalid won second position in the Dental Photography Competition, showcasing the creative and visual aspects of modern dentistry.
LUMHS students also received the People's Choice Award in the Short Film Competition. The winning team comprised Muhammad Bilal, Meesum Abbas, Drupadi Nanda, Ramsha Nasir, Fahad and Jawad, whose project, supervised by Dr Jazib Memon, earned recognition from participants and attendees for its impactful storytelling and public engagement.
Collectively, these achievements demonstrated that today's dental students are developing competencies that extend well beyond clinical practice, encompassing communication, creativity, teamwork and digital literacy.
Strong presence in scientific research and academic competitions
Alongside its award-winning performances, LUMHS maintained a significant presence in scientific research competitions.
Muhammad Bilal represented the university in the Free Paper Presentation category with his research titled "Awareness and Knowledge of Human Papillomavirus and HPV Vaccination Among Dental Students in Pakistan."
The study examined awareness levels among dental students regarding HPV infection, vaccination and the virus's association with oropharyngeal cancer, highlighting educational opportunities to strengthen preventive oral healthcare and patient education.
Haris Aziz Memon also represented LUMHS in the E-Poster Competition, while students from the institute presented 12 scientific research posters, reflecting the growing research culture within the Faculty of Dentistry.
The presenters and research teams included Tanzeela Fatima; Isha Arshad, Hassan Ali and Alssa Uqaily; Eiffa Iftikhar, Aisham, Aiza, Sooraj, Paras and Ashba; Simral, Sanober, Aqsa and Misbah; Muhammad Bilal; Nisha and Jawad; Shahzeb Akhtar, Dua Shah and Jhanzeb; Mahnoor Anwar and Sejal Lohana; Kumail, Hassan and Maheen; Maya and Jotika; Alssa Uqaily; and Kashish, Amish, Laiba and Ilyas.

The participating students received guidance from Prof Dr Sana Mirza, Dr Jazib Memon, Dr Ram Parshad, Dr Salman Shams Memon, Dr Rabia Anis, Dr Ali Ghulam Nohani, Dr Abdul Qudoos Memon and Dr Sarang.
The submission also acknowledged the leadership of Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Ikram Din Ujjan and Dean Faculty of Dentistry Prof Dr Feroze Ali Kalhoro for fostering an environment that encourages research, innovation and student participation at national academic forums.
