AIDM takes dental students to Platinum Pharmaceuticals for experiential learning
KARACHI: The Faculty of Community and Preventive Dentistry at Altamash Institute of Dental Medicine (AIDM) organized an educational field trip for BDS second-year students to Platinum Pharmaceuticals on October 16, 2025, as part of its experiential learning initiative.
The visit was supervised by Dr Amir Akbar Shaikh, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Community Dentistry, along with Dr Nikita Bodani, Dr Anum Ilyas, Dr Alkesh Kammal, Dr Jannat Arif, and Dr Mahnoor Shafique. Senior faculty members Dr Hasnain Sakrani and Dr Naseer Ahmed also joined the trip, adding valuable academic insights to the experience.
Hands-on exposure to pharmaceutical operations
The objective of the visit was to help students gain practical understanding of the pharmaceutical industry and its role in supporting healthcare and dental practices. Students were given a guided tour of the Platinum Pharmaceuticals production facility, where they observed various stages of drug formulation, packaging, and quality control.
Industry experts provided detailed briefings on Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), hygiene protocols, and safety standards, emphasizing how adherence to these standards ensures the safety and efficacy of medical and dental pharmaceuticals.
Bridging classroom learning with real-world practice
During the visit, students interacted with the technical staff and learned about the integration of science, technology, and regulation in pharmaceutical production. The discussions enhanced their understanding of how the pharma sector contributes to public health, oral healthcare, and patient safety.
Platinum Pharmaceuticals also hosted the students for lunch, making the educational trip both informative and engaging.
