Day 1 review: PDA–DTMA mega dental event opens with high-impact science and strong trade momentum in Lahore

LAHORE: Pakistan’s largest integrated dental gathering — the 8th DTMA Dental Exhibition, held alongside the 14th International and 34th National Pakistan Dental Association (PDA) Dental Conference — concluded its Day 1 on Friday with well-attended scientific sessions, buzzing exhibition floor, and strong engagement from across the dental profession and industry at the Expo Center Lahore.

The three-day mega event, jointly organized by the Dental Trade & Manufacturers Association Pakistan (DTMA) and the Pakistan Dental Association (PDA), opened earlier in the day with a formal inauguration led by Dr Khurshid Ahmad, President PDA Central Council, setting the tone for a unified, forward-looking dental platform.

Conference Day 1: Policy, practice and clinical excellence take center stage

The scientific program on Day 1 began with a PDA General Body Meeting and Scope of Practice Finalization, chaired by Dr Khurshid Ahmad, bringing together PDA office-bearers, academicians, general dental practitioners and stakeholders for an in-depth discussion on the scope of general dental practice in Pakistan — a session widely seen as timely and consequential for the profession.

Following the midday break, the conference plenary featured high-yield clinical sessions that drew strong attendance:

How to prevent complications in difficult extractions: a stepwise approach
Complications of fixed prosthodontics: what, how and why
• The smart side of forensic dentistry

The sessions reflected the conference theme of resilience, renewal and responsibility, combining practical guidance with evidence-based perspectives relevant to both general practitioners and specialists.

Speaking on the opening day, Dr Khurshid Ahmad said the integrated DTMA–PDA format represents a maturing phase for dentistry in Pakistan.

“By bringing scientific dialogue, professional policy and industry innovation together under one platform, we are strengthening dentistry not just academically, but institutionally and ethically,” he remarked.

DTMA Exhibition Day 1: Strong footfall, active business engagement

Running in parallel, the 8th DTMA Dental Exhibition witnessed good footfall throughout the day, with clinicians, students and procurement decision-makers engaging directly with manufacturers, suppliers and distributors from across Pakistan and overseas.

The exhibition floor showcased dental equipment, materials, digital dentistry solutions, implants, laboratory technologies, infection control systems and practice management tools, with multiple exhibitors reporting strong interest, live demonstrations and early-stage business discussions on Day 1.

DTMA President Ashraf Ali Ghauri described the opening day response as highly encouraging.

“The energy on Day 1 reflects growing confidence in Pakistan’s dental market. With the PDA conference running alongside the exhibition, decision-makers are present, discussions are meaningful, and the ecosystem is working exactly as envisioned,” he said.

Organizers expect trade engagement to accelerate further over the remaining two days, building on the momentum of previous editions where significant business volumes were generated.

Integrated platform delivering tangible value

Industry observers noted that the synchronization of scientific sessions with the trade exhibition, enabled through the PDA–DTMA MoU, was clearly visible on Day 1 — with delegates moving seamlessly between conference halls and exhibition areas.

This convergence allowed practitioners to contextualize clinical learning with technology adoption, while exhibitors benefited from direct engagement with an academically informed audience.

Looking ahead to Days 2 and 3

With a strong opening day behind it, the PDA-DTMA joint event is set to continue through Sunday, December 28, featuring advanced scientific sessions, hands-on workshops, policy discussions, and expanded exhibition activity.

As Pakistan’s dental community gathers in Lahore, Day 1 has already underscored the event’s role as a national benchmark for professional unity, clinical excellence and industry growth.
