LAHORE: In a historic milestone for Pakistan’s dental community, the Pakistan Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (PAPD) has been officially admitted as a regular member of the South Asian Association of Pediatric Dentistry (SAAPD). The announcement was made during the 5th SAAPD Annual Congress held in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Representing Pakistan at the regional congress were Prof. Dr. Hasham Khan, President PAPD, and Prof. Dr. Arham Nawaz Chohan, General Secretary PAPD. From the main stage, Prof. Dr. Arham Nawaz Chohan formally declared the inclusion of the Pakistan Chapter in SAAPD — marking a new era for pediatric dental collaboration across South Asia.

A milestone for Pakistan’s pediatric dental community

“This membership is more than recognition — it’s a mandate to lead,” said Prof. Dr. Hasham Khan, President of PAPD. “It gives our pediatric dentists a stronger regional platform to standardize care, share expertise, and elevate oral health outcomes for children.”

Adding to the significance of this achievement, Prof. Dr. Arham Nawaz Chohan announced the next major step — a joint Pakistan–Bangladesh SAAPD Conference to be held in April 2027 at a neutral venue in Dubai.

“This upcoming conference signals our intent to build bridges across South Asia,” said Prof. Dr. Chohan. “We will convene researchers, educators, and clinicians to set the agenda for child oral health in the decade ahead.”

A step toward regional integration and leadership

The inclusion of PAPD as a regular member of SAAPD reflects Pakistan’s growing leadership role in advancing pediatric dental education, research, and clinical standards in the region. It also strengthens academic cooperation among South Asian countries committed to improving child oral health.

The members of PAPD extended heartfelt congratulations to the Academy’s office-bearers and contributors whose sustained commitment and efforts made this landmark possible.

With this membership, Pakistan’s pediatric dental professionals are now positioned to contribute more meaningfully to regional training, collaborative research, and evidence-based clinical practices that benefit millions of children across South Asia.
