GENEVA: Tobacco use remains one of the most pressing global health challenges, significantly impacting oral and overall health. As key players in healthcare, dentists and dental professionals have a crucial role in combating the tobacco epidemic by guiding patients toward smoking cessation.
In response to this need, the FDI World Dental Federation launched its Tobacco Cessation Project in 2020, equipping dental teams with specialized resources to help patients quit smoking. The initiative aims to:
✅ Raise awareness of the oral health profession’s role in tobacco cessation
✅ Educate about the dangers of tobacco for oral health
✅ Enhance the skills of dentists and dental teams in providing effective tobacco cessation interventions
Apply for a CHF 1,000 Grant to Host a Tobacco Cessation Workshop!
FDI, in collaboration with National Dental Associations (NDAs), has been conducting Tobacco Cessation Workshops worldwide, training dental teams on how to incorporate smoking cessation advice into their practice. As part of this initiative, FDI invites Regular and Associate NDA members to apply for a CHF 1,000 grant to organize these impactful workshops in their respective countries.
Successful applicants will gain access to:
→ A comprehensive workshop package
→ A Tobacco Cessation Guide (available in English, French, Spanish, Arabic, and Japanese)
→ Video animations demonstrating a 3–5 minute intervention in dental settings
→ Practical tools to help patients make a quit attempt
Project goals
- Increase awareness of the fundamental role of oral health profession to work for tobacco cessation.
- Increase knowledge and skills of oral health professionals to provide tobacco cessation interventions in dental settings.
- Increase awareness of the dangers of tobacco smoking to oral health & emphasize the importance of oral health to achieving overall health and well-being.
