KARACHI: The Liaquat College of Medicine and Dentistry (LCMD) collaborated with Dow University and Ziauddin University, recently to organize its first endodontic workshop, as part of the Scientific Session of Healthcare Expo 2024,
The event was led by Dr. Amna Rehman, Assistant Professor in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
Dr. Arshad Hasan, a distinguished endodontist holding BDS, FCPS, and a PhD in Operative Dentistry facilitated the workshop. Dr. Hasan, former principal of Dow Dental College (DUHS) and current Head of the Operative Dentistry Department, was accompanied by Dr. Javeria, Assistant Professor in the Operative Dentistry Department at DUHS.
The workshop, held at Ziauddin University, was co-facilitated by Dr. Tazeen Zehra, Dr. Araib Tahir, and Dr. Uzair Aftab, besides assistant professors of the Operative Dentistry Department, and Dr. Touseef Ahmed, Assistant Professor in the Oral Pathology Department at LCMD.
Prof. Wahab Kadri and Prof. Dr. Asmat, welcomed teams from the collaborating universities. This comprehensive full-day workshop centered on the application of minimally invasive endodontics utilizing M3 Pro Blue NiTi files, provided by MR Dental, which supplied the complete kit and files for hands-on sessions.
During the workshop, the students learnt about the latest techniques and advancements in endodontics directly from eminent professionals in the field. Beyond honing students' skills, the workshop inculcated a sense of collaborative synergy among the participating institutions.
The pioneering workshop paved way for future collaborations and continued progress in the field.
Workshop on soft tissue handling at LCMD
Continuing the momentum of the DentaInnovate Scientific Session, a workshop titled "Mastering Soft Tissue Handling: From Theory to Practice" was recently held at Liaquat College of Medicine & Dentistry (LCMD).
The workshop began with a lecture on the nuances of soft tissue flaps, grafts, and the array of sutures employed in oral surgery. It equipped participants with theoretical foundation crucial for mastering soft tissue manipulation in dental procedures.
Emphasizing the role of soft tissue management, the lecture underscored how adept handling techniques influence surgical outcomes and patient recovery.
Following the lecture, the participants engaged in an interactive hands-on session, where each of them was provided with a goat head for practical application of the discussed techniques.
They were guided by Prof. Dr. Navid Rashid Qureshi, Principal of the College of Dentistry at LCMD. who gave a live demonstration of soft tissue handling techniques.
Prof. Dr. Tahera Ayub, who expertly moderated the session, ensuring individualized attention for each participant. Dr. Amna Rehman, alongside a dedicated team of facilitators, organized the event.
Proficient soft tissue management is indispensable in various dental surgical procedures, directly influencing success rates and patient recovery. Workshops like these offer an opportunity to dental professionals to refine their practical skills, ensuring they deliver exemplary patient care.
The session culminated in a shield distribution ceremony, a group photograph and a lunch for the participants, offering networking opportunities.

Anterior crown prep workshop at FJDC
The "Anterior Crown Prep: Master Class for Beginners" workshop held at Fatima Jinnah Dental College (FJDC) provided a hands-on, skill-refining experience for dental professionals.
Led by Dr. Sameer Qureshi, the workshop commenced with a comprehensive lecture, followed by practical, hands-on sessions where participants learned and practiced anterior crown preparation techniques.
The workshop was coordinated by Dr. Abbas Mehdi and Dr. Kazim Alwani, in collaboration with LCMD's team, including Prof. Dr. Uzma Zareef, Dr. Afshan Qamar, Dr. Anam Iqbal, and Mr. Muhammad Amin. Moderation was overseen by Dr. Afshan Qamar.
Dr. Qureshi's exceptional expertise contributed significantly to the workshop's success. Each participant received individual hand pieces and phantom heads for crown preparation practice, complemented by a session on 3D scanning conducted by Dr. Waqas Lakhani.
The workshop concluded with the distribution of JSMU-accredited certificates, acknowledging participants' achievements in mastering anterior crown preparation techniques.
