Post-conference masterclass strengthens Parotid Surgery skills at LUMHS Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: The Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at Liaquat University of Medical & Health Sciences (LUMHS), Jamshoro, recently conducted a Pre-Conference Masterclass on Parotid Surgery and Facial Nerve Preservation at Liaquat University Hospital, Hyderabad. This workshop was part of the academic activities of the 6th International Dental Conference, themed “Transforming Oral Health: Where Technology Meets Tradition.”

Designed to enhance surgical knowledge and technical expertise, the masterclass focused on parotid gland surgery with a special emphasis on facial nerve identification and preservation. Participants received comprehensive insights into parotid region anatomy, preoperative planning, superficial and deep parotidectomy techniques, and management of intraoperative and postoperative complications.

Expert faculty, interactive learning

The workshop featured renowned faculty including Prof. Dr. Riaz Ahmed, Dean Faculty of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, CPSP; Dr. Jehan Alam, Consultant OMFS at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre; and Dr. Ilyas Shaikh, Consultant OMFS at Dow International Dental College. These experts shared their clinical experience through interactive lectures, live surgical discussions, and case-based learning.

Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Muhammad Shahzad, Chairman Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at LUMHS Jamshoro, the academic sessions were moderated by distinguished faculty including Prof. Dr. Kashif Ali Channar, Prof. Dr. Suneel Kumar, Prof. Dr. Bashir Ahmed Jalbani, and Prof. Dr. Aftab Ahmed. Their expert moderation ensured a dynamic learning environment for all attendees.

Hands-on exposure for junior fellows, residents

The masterclass drew junior fellows and residents from Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Plastic Surgery, and General Surgery departments. Participants gained valuable hands-on exposure to modern surgical techniques, strengthening clinical decision-making and operative confidence.
