Dow Dental students win DentalInnovate 2.0 table clinic competition with research on non-invasive cancer diagnosis

KARACHI: Two students of Dow International Dental College, Iqra Siddiqui and Syeda Tehreem Irfan, achieved a remarkable milestone by winning first prize in the Table Clinic competition at the recently concluded DentalInnovate 2.0. Their research, titled “Non-invasive Methods for Diagnosing Precancerous and Cancerous Conditions in Pakistan”, impressed judges for its innovation, clinical relevance, and potential impact on public health. The project was supervised by Dr. Yusra Ghoghari.

The recognition came during DentalInnovate 2.0, a three-day academic expo held from 22nd to 24th July 2025 at Expo Centre Karachi, organized by Liaquat College of Medicine & Dentistry (LCMD) in collaboration with Badar Expo Solutions. The event gathered hundreds of dental professionals, students, and researchers under the theme “Igniting Innovation in Dentistry Across Pakistan.”

Transforming dental education and research

DentalInnovate 2.0 set a new benchmark for dental education, research, and industry-academia collaboration in Pakistan. With multiple segments including scientific sessions, poster competitions, table clinics, academic challenges, quiz contests, paper presentations, and short film contests, the event fostered a culture of creativity, critical thinking, and evidence-based clinical practice.

The Table Clinic competition was among the most anticipated categories, providing young researchers a chance to present cutting-edge studies with practical applications in oral healthcare. Iqra and Syeda’s project stood out for addressing a pressing healthcare challenge in Pakistan — the early detection of oral precancerous and cancerous conditions using non-invasive methods.

A platform for future leaders

Organized under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Navid Rashid Qureshi (Chairperson), Prof. Dr. Uzma Zareef (Co-Chairperson), and Prof. Dr. Tahera Ayub (Secretary), with the support of core team members Dr. Tauseef Ahmed, Dr. Rizwan Hassan, Dr. Sabaa Shahid, and Dr. Saim Siddiqui, the event not only celebrated academic excellence but also positioned itself as a hub of transformative ideas and clinical innovation.

“DentalInnovate 2.0 has truly become a hub of transformative ideas and clinical excellence,” said Prof. Dr. Navid Rashid Qureshi, commending the talent and commitment displayed by students nationwide.

With their award-winning research, Iqra Siddiqui and Syeda Tehreem Irfan have not only brought pride to Dow International Dental College but also highlighted the critical importance of research-led solutions for Pakistan’s oral cancer burden.
