PADS promotes oral health awareness among students in Bahawalpur
BAHAWALPUR: The Pakistan Association of Dental Students (PADS) successfully organized its first dental awareness camp in Bahawalpur under the title “Sparkling Smiles Bahawalpur”, marking another milestone in student-led oral health promotion and community service.
Held at Sadiq Public School, Bahawalpur — the largest school in continental Asia — the camp aimed to educate schoolchildren on the importance of oral hygiene, preventive care, and healthy dental habits from an early age.
The initiative followed the success of Sparkling Smiles Multan Dental Camp, previously conducted by Dr Ahmad Haseeb and his team last year. Building on that momentum, the Bahawalpur camp focused exclusively on awareness and prevention rather than clinical treatment, underscoring PADS’ mission to spread knowledge and advocacy for oral health across Pakistan.
Student leadership and organization
The event was conceptualized and led by Dr Ahmad Haseeb and Haseeb Nadeem, with dedicated support from team members Anas ur Rehman and Roshaan Mazhar. Their collaborative efforts, enthusiasm, and leadership ensured the success of this large-scale community outreach activity.
Dental students and young doctors from both Multan and Bahawalpur joined hands to conduct interactive educational sessions, fun demonstrations, and oral hygiene awareness activities. The sessions were designed to help children understand the importance of brushing twice daily, maintaining a balanced diet, and scheduling regular dental checkups.
Awareness through engagement
Unlike conventional clinical camps, Sparkling Smiles Bahawalpur emphasized prevention and behavioral change through engaging methods. The participants used models, visuals, and interactive Q&A sessions to make oral health learning fun, relatable, and memorable for students.
The camp’s message was simple yet impactful — oral hygiene is not just a routine, but a lifelong habit that shapes overall health and confidence.
Community appreciation and impact
The school administration of Sadiq Public School appreciated PADS for its contribution to student health education and community service. Teachers and parents praised the approachable format of the sessions, noting that such initiatives encourage children to take active responsibility for their oral health.
The organizers expressed their gratitude for the warm reception and reaffirmed their commitment to continuing PADS’ nationwide outreach.
“Initiatives like Sparkling Smiles are about nurturing awareness at the grassroots level and inspiring a generation that values oral health,” said the organizers.
The event concluded with appreciation certificates for volunteers and heartfelt acknowledgment from school representatives — reinforcing that collaborative, student-driven health awareness can create meaningful community change.
About the initiative
The Sparkling Smiles series is a signature oral health awareness initiative by dental students under the Pakistan Association of Dental Students (PADS). It aims to bridge the gap between dental education and community service by engaging schools and youth audiences across Pakistan.
With successful editions now in Multan and Bahawalpur, the program continues to empower young dental professionals to promote preventive care, public awareness, and a culture of healthy smiles nationwide.
