KARACHI: A second-year BDS student has emerged as the champion of “Battle of White Coats – Inter-Batch Dental Academic Championship 2026” at Jinnah Medical & Dental College (JMDC), beating finalists representing every BDS year in an academic contest designed to test dental knowledge, general awareness and quick thinking.
Mr Abdullah Owais of 2nd Year BDS claimed the championship after an intense final round, while students from the first, third and final years secured the remaining finalist positions.
The competition was organized by the Co-Curricular Wing of the JMDC BDS Student Council, under the leadership of Student President Mahaveer Singh and his team, bringing students from different academic years together for an inter-batch test of knowledge and competitive spirit.
From dental MCQs to rapid-fire questions
The championship featured two rounds, each designed to test a different aspect of students' academic and intellectual abilities.
The first round consisted of multiple-choice questions (MCQs) based on dental subjects relevant to the participants' respective academic years.
This format meant that students were tested according to the level of knowledge expected from their current stage of BDS education, creating an academic contest across different cohorts rather than a single-year competition.
But clearing the first round was only the beginning.
Four finalists, one champion
Following the preliminary competition, one student from each BDS year qualified for the final round, setting up a four-way contest between representatives of the first, second, third and final years.
The finalists were:
- Ayesha Amin — 1st Year BDS
- Abdullah Owais — 2nd Year BDS
- Muhammad Iffamullah — 3rd Year BDS
- Malaika Rana — Final Year BDS
The final stage shifted the focus beyond year-specific dental subjects.
Participants faced a rapid-fire round testing general knowledge, putting their ability to think quickly and respond under pressure to the test.
2nd Year BDS student takes the title
After the closely contested final, Abdullah Owais from 2nd Year BDS emerged as the champion of Battle of White Coats 2026.
His victory stood out in a competition that brought together students at markedly different stages of their dental education, including a final-year BDS student.
The remaining finalists—Ayesha Amin, Muhammad Iffamullah and Malaika Rana—secured the runner-up positions representing the first, third and final years respectively.
More than an academic competition
The championship provided students with a platform to demonstrate abilities that extend beyond conventional classroom assessments.
While the MCQ round focused on academic and dental knowledge, the rapid-fire round introduced another dimension: the ability to recall information quickly, remain focused and respond under competitive pressure.
For BDS students, such activities can complement formal academic learning by encouraging knowledge retention, healthy competition and interaction across different batches.
The inter-batch format also gave junior students an opportunity to compete alongside more senior students, creating an environment where academic achievement could be recognized across the BDS programme.
JMDC student council puts academic talent in the spotlight
The event was organized through the Co-Curricular Wing of the JMDC BDS Student Council, highlighting the role of student-led initiatives in creating opportunities beyond routine academic schedules.
By combining dental MCQs with a general-knowledge rapid-fire challenge, Battle of White Coats 2026 turned academic knowledge into a competitive experience while giving students a platform to showcase their preparation and confidence.
With one representative from each BDS year reaching the final and a 2nd Year BDS student ultimately taking the championship, the event concluded as a celebration of academic excellence, quick thinking and student talent at JMDC.
