Jinnah Medical and Dental College holds inaugural academic poster competition 2025
KARACHI: Jinnah Medical & Dental College (dental section) successfully held its first academic poster competition 2025, aimed at promoting research culture, clinical creativity, and public health awareness among undergraduate dental students. The event brought together students from all four years of the BDS program, who enthusiastically participated and confidently presented their posters to a distinguished panel of judges.
The competition was designed to encourage students to visually communicate scientific findings, innovative clinical techniques, and community health ideas in a clear and concise format. This initiative reflects JMDC’s continued efforts to bridge academic knowledge with practical skill-building, aligning with global standards of dental education.
Expert panel of judges evaluates innovation
The posters were evaluated by a panel of renowned dental academicians and clinicians:
- Dr. Murtaza Raza Kazmi, Associate Professor & Associate Program Director Prosthodontics, Aga Khan University
- Dr. Isma Sajjad, Assistant Professor Operative Dentistry, Sindh Institute of Oral Health Sciences, JSMU
- Dr. Amir Akbar Shaikh, Associate Professor & Head of Community and Preventive Dentistry, Altamash Institute of Medical Sciences
- Dr. Hina Siddiqui, Senior Registrar Orthodontics, Sindh Institute of Oral Health Sciences, JSMU

Following the judging, Prof. Dr. Marium Iqbal, Vice Principal of the Dental College, addressed the attendees and announced the results:
First position
Awarded to 3rd year BDS students M. Aliyan, Dua Faisal, Laraid Afridi, and Malaika Rana
Supervised by: Dr. Ujala Faisal, Head of Department, Periodontology
Second position
Won by a 1st year BDS team supervised by Dr. Saima Hanif, Head of Department, Oral Biology
Third position
Also from 1st year BDS, supervised by Dr. Rooma Shahid, Assistant Professor, Orthodontics
Closing ceremony and appreciation
The event concluded with a heartfelt thank-you note by Prof. Dr. Junaid Lakhani, Principal of JMDC Dental College. He praised the students’ efforts and acknowledged the judges with tokens of appreciation. Winners received shields, certificates, and cash prizes in recognition of their academic excellence and creative presentation skills.
