KARACHI: Sohail University, in collaboration with the National Academy of Higher Education (NAHE), Islamabad, under the Mentoring Program for Universities (MPU), successfully organized a highly impactful hands-on workshop titled “Diversity & Inclusion in Mentorship: Creating Equitable Academic Environments.”
The session was conducted with active participation from academic leaders, faculty members, and mentors-in-training, reinforcing the growing emphasis on inclusive education and institutional capacity building in Pakistan’s higher education sector.

The workshop was facilitated by Prof. Dr. Junaid Lakhani, Principal, Dental College, JMDC, who delivered a deeply engaging and thought-provoking session. His presentation emphasized the critical role of mentorship in fostering inclusive academic cultures where diversity is not only acknowledged but actively leveraged to enhance educational outcomes.
A key focus of the workshop was strengthening institutional frameworks to ensure equitable mentorship practices. Participants explored practical strategies for future mentors to support students and faculty from diverse backgrounds, ensuring fair access to academic guidance, professional development, and leadership opportunities.
The interactive nature of the session encouraged open dialogue, reflection, and knowledge sharing. Attendees widely appreciated the facilitator’s dynamic delivery, practical insights, and ability to create an inspiring and intellectually stimulating environment that kept participants fully engaged throughout the workshop.
Beyond its academic value, the workshop also aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4) – Quality Education, reinforcing the importance of inclusive, equitable, and lifelong learning opportunities. By strengthening mentorship systems and institutional values, the initiative contributed meaningfully to improving educational quality and professional development pathways within higher education institutions.
The event was organized by the Mentorship Program Committee (MPC), Sohail University, under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Shaista Emad (Chairperson, MPC-SU) and Prof. Dr. Nasim Karim (Focal Person, MPU-HEC).
The initiative reflects a broader commitment by academic institutions in Pakistan to modernize mentorship frameworks, promote diversity-driven leadership, and enhance the overall quality of higher education through structured capacity-building programs.
