KARACHI: In a defining moment for the country’s dental education landscape, the Pakistan Association of Private Medical & Dental Institutions (PAMI) has conferred its prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award 2026 upon Prof. Dr. Ghulam Rasool, recognizing more than 35 years of exceptional leadership in orthodontics, curriculum reform, accreditation systems, research, and dental policy development.

The honor places him among the most consequential names in Pakistan’s dental history and reinforces PAMI’s growing tradition of recognizing healthcare pioneers through its national Healthcare Excellence Awards platform. PAMI’s awards have increasingly become a benchmark for celebrating long-term impact in medical and dental education across Pakistan.

What makes this recognition especially significant is that Prof. Dr. Ghulam Rasool’s influence extends far beyond classrooms.

A BDS graduate of Khyber Medical College (1989), he later completed MCPS and FCPS in Orthodontics, followed by a Master in Health Professional Education (MHPE) from Khyber Medical University—a combination that helped him bridge clinical excellence with strategic academic reform.

His leadership journey as former Principal and Dean of Khyber College of Dentistry and current Principal of Rehman College of Dentistry has positioned him at the center of institutional transformation in dental education.

But his larger legacy lies in systems-level reform.

Over the past decade, he has played a pivotal role in undergraduate and postgraduate curriculum modernization, including the development of the FCPS Part I curriculum, chairing the Orthodontics Part II curriculum committee, and helping create dental college accreditation standards introduced in 2018. He later went on to chair the accreditation committee in 2024, helping shape how quality in dental institutions is measured nationwide.

His policy footprint remains equally powerful through his roles as:

  • Member, Academic Board, Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PMDC)
  • Dean, Faculty of Orthodontics, CPSP
  • Member, Medical Education Committee constituted by the Prime Minister of Pakistan

Perhaps his most profession-defining contribution remains his role as the architect of dentistry reforms in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where his advocacy directly led to the approval and implementation of the service structure for the general dental cadre—a breakthrough that addressed long-standing professional and workforce issues.

That single reform alone changed career pathways for countless dentists.

His academic scholarship further strengthens his legacy, with more than 70 research publications, editorial leadership at JKCD, and his current role as founder chief editor of JRCD.

He has also remained a key force behind knowledge exchange, organizing multiple national conferences, two international orthodontics conferences, and three international health research conferences, with two more international conferences planned in 2026.

This is why PAMI’s recognition feels bigger than an award ceremony.

It is a national acknowledgment that Pakistan’s dental future did not evolve by chance—it was built through the sustained work of leaders who reformed curriculum, strengthened institutions, fought for workforce structures, and modernized academic governance.

Prof. Dr. Ghulam Rasool’s journey represents exactly that kind of rare leadership.

And in honoring him, Pakistan’s dental fraternity is also honoring the very blueprint of its modern progress.
