PMDC holds National Registration Examination (NRE-I) 2025 for foreign graduates
ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has successfully conducted the National Registration Examination (NRE-I) 2025, a mandatory licensing exam for foreign-qualified Pakistani nationals holding MBBS and BDS degrees. The exam was held simultaneously across major cities—Karachi, Islamabad, Lahore, and Peshawar—under the organized supervision of the National University of Medical Sciences (NUMS).
Held in accordance with Section 18 of the PMDC Act 2022, the NRE is a critical assessment tool to ensure that returning Pakistani graduates meet the required medical standards before gaining full registration as General Practitioners in Pakistan.
A total of 5,036 foreign-qualified medical graduates were registered for NRE-I 2025. This included 4,995 MBBS and 41 BDS graduates. The city-wise breakdown is as follows:
- Islamabad: 1,583 MBBS, 19 BDS
- Lahore: 2,538 MBBS, 15 BDS
- Peshawar: 442 MBBS, 3 BDS
- Karachi: 390 MBBS, 1 BDS
The theory component of the exam commenced at 9:30 AM and spanned three hours and thirty minutes. The **NRE consists of two parts—NRE-I and NRE-II—and candidates are required to achieve at least 60% marks in both parts separately to qualify.
