KARACHI: Reinforcing the importance of experiential learning in healthcare education, the Department of Community Dentistry at the Altamash Institute of Dental Medicine (AIDM) organised an educational visit to Platinum Pharmaceuticals for second-year Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) students, providing them with valuable insights into pharmaceutical manufacturing and industry operations.
The educational visit was part of the department's efforts to bridge the gap between classroom instruction and real-world healthcare practices.
The visit was led by Dr Amir Akbar Shaikh, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Community Dentistry, along with faculty members Dr Nikita Bodani, Dr Anum Ilyas, Dr Alkesh Kammal, Dr Eman Aslam, Dr Fatima Jafri and Dr Zain Jabbar.
During the visit, students were introduced to various aspects of pharmaceutical manufacturing and operations, including drug production processes, quality control systems, packaging procedures and industry safety standards. The activity enabled students to observe how medicines move from production to packaging while adhering to stringent quality assurance and regulatory requirements.
The visit provided second-year BDS students with an opportunity to connect theoretical concepts learned in classrooms with practical applications in the pharmaceutical industry. Faculty members noted that such experiences are essential in helping future dental professionals develop a broader understanding of the healthcare ecosystem and the multidisciplinary processes involved in patient care and medicine development.
The Department of Community Dentistry expressed its appreciation for the support and hospitality extended by the Platinum Pharmaceuticals team throughout the visit.
