Virtual simulation workshop at SIMPACT 2025 highlights future of healthcare training
KARACHI: Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUMHS), in collaboration with The Aga Khan University (AKU), conducted a pre-conference workshop at SIMPACT 2025 under the theme “Empowering educators: transforming healthcare training with virtual simulation.”
The workshop was led by Prof. Dr. Kashif Ali Channar, professor of oral and maxillofacial surgery at LUMHS, and Dr. Rabia Anis, assistant professor at the department of medical education, LUMHS. Prof. Channar emphasized how virtual simulation can revolutionize postgraduate and faculty training by providing safe, repeatable, and scalable learning environments. Dr. Anis guided participants through the complete cycle of simulation, covering planning, design, execution, and evaluation.
Practical exposure and tools
Participants explored the Touch Surgery app to understand clinical scenarios and also engaged in a hands-on activity using Google Sites, H5P, and YouTube to design case-based resources. This interactive approach allowed faculty and residents to experience how technology can enhance teaching effectiveness and learner engagement.
Multidisciplinary collaboration
The event brought together postgraduate residents and faculty from medicine, dentistry, nursing, and biomedical sciences. This multidisciplinary participation enriched the discussions and encouraged a collaborative perspective on integrating digital tools in health professions education.
Positive outcomes
Feedback from participants indicated improved awareness, greater confidence, and renewed enthusiasm to embed virtual simulation in healthcare education. Organizers highlighted that such initiatives not only strengthen institutional collaborations but also enhance the quality of teaching and training for future healthcare professionals.
By bridging innovation with education, the workshop demonstrated how virtual simulation can serve as a transformative tool to prepare healthcare providers for real-world challenges while prioritizing patient safety and effective learning.
