FDI General Assembly 2025 announces new officers and policy statements in Shanghai

SHANGHAI: The FDI General Assembly (GA), the supreme legislative and governing body of FDI, convened during the 2025 FDI world dental congress in Shanghai, China, to take key decisions shaping the future of oral health worldwide.

The GA meets annually to set FDI policies, strategic plans, missions, and aims, while also monitoring progress, approving budgets, and electing members to leadership positions. This year’s session brought together global dental leaders to elect new officers and adopt several new policy statements critical for advancing dentistry and oral health care.

Newly elected FDI officers and council members

The voting members of the GA elected the following officers and council members:

  • President-elect: Prof. Young Guk Park (Republic of Korea)
  • Treasurer: Dr Carol G. Summerhays (United States of America)
  • Councillor: Prof. Dr Yi M Liu (China)
  • Councillor: Dr Gabriela Ramírez Mendoza (Mexico)

  • Caries management with silver diamine fluoride
  • Digital dentistry
  • Electronic health records
  • Noma – eradicating a preventable disease to save lives
  • Specialization in dentistry
  • The role of supervision in dentistry
  • The use of topical fluoride for caries prevention

These policy statements will soon be available for consultation on the FDI website and will be published in the International Dental Journal, providing valuable guidance for oral health professionals and policymakers worldwide.
