Prof. Dr. Nasir Ali Khan appointed Dean Faculty of Dentistry at Karachi Metropolitan University
KARACHI: The Government of Sindh he has appointed Prof. Dr. Nasir Ali Khan as Dean, Faculty of Dentistry and Allied Sciences, Karachi Metropolitan University for a period of three years. The appointment was made through an official notification issued by the Universities and Boards Department, Karachi, dated January 26, 2026, in exercise of powers under Section 2(2) of the First Statutes of Karachi Metropolitan University Act, 2022, as amended from time to time.
The notification states that the appointment has been approved by the Chief Minister of Sindh and was issued by order of the chief minister, signed by Secretary Universities and Boards Department Muhammad Abbas Baloch.
Prof. Dr. Nasir Ali Khan is currently serving as Head of the Department of Oral Biology and brings with him nearly three decades of experience in dental education, clinical practice, and professional leadership. A distinguished alumnus of Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences, he completed his Bachelor of Dental Surgery in 1992–93 and later earned Membership of the College of Physicians and Surgeons in 2001. He also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Administration from the University of Karachi and is a Fellow of the International College of Continuing Dental Education.
Since joining Karachi Medical and Dental College in 1997, Prof. Dr. Khan has played a key role in academic development and institutional governance. He has been serving as Head of Oral Biology since 2002 and has also worked as Convener of Oral Biology at the University of Karachi and Karachi Metropolitan University. He has served as external examiner in oral biology and tooth morphology for several universities including DUHS, JSMU, Hamdard University, Ziauddin University, Baqai University, and LUMHS.
His administrative experience includes responsibilities as Chairman of multiple institutional committees at KMDC, including sports, premises, and security committees, as well as long-standing involvement in convocation management. He served as secretary of the KMDC convocation in 2018 and again in 2022.
At the national and international level, Prof. Dr. Nasir Ali Khan has held several important leadership positions. He served as Vice President of the Asia Pacific Dental Federation. He has served as Secretary General of the Pakistan Dental Association Central Council and vice president of the Pakistan Dental Association Sindh Chapter and joint secretary general of the Pakistan Society of Dental Surgeons. He also served as a member of the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council from Sindh between 2015 and 2017. For the 43rd Asia Pacific Dental Congress (APDC) 2022, held in Pakistan, he served as Secretary of the Congress, where more than 100 international speakers presented their scientific papers. In 2015, at the PDA International Dental Conference in Karachi, he was honored with the Best Man of the Congress Award.
Prof. Dr. Khan has represented Pakistan at numerous international dental conferences and congresses in Turkiye, the United Arab Emirates, Iran, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, reflecting his active engagement with global dental education and professional collaboration.
Colleagues describe him as a dedicated educator, skilled clinician, humble mentor, and compassionate leader. His appointment as Dean is widely seen as a positive step for strengthening academic standards, faculty development, and clinical training within the Faculty of Dentistry and Allied Sciences at Karachi Metropolitan University.
With his extensive academic background, professional service, and administrative experience, Prof. Dr. Nasir Ali Khan is expected to play a significant role in advancing dental education and research during his three-year tenure.
