JAMSHORO: Final-year BDS students and postgraduate dental trainees at Liaquat University of Medical & Health Sciences (LUMHS) received first-hand guidance on pursuing careers in the United Kingdom during a career counselling seminar held recently.

The seminar focused on the professional opportunities, career pathways and broader prospects available to Pakistani dental graduates and postgraduate trainees seeking to build their careers in the UK.

The session was delivered by Prof. Syed Ghazanfar Hassan, Consultant Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon at Luton & Dunstable University Hospital, UK, and former Professor of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at LUMHS.

With experience in both Pakistan and the UK, Prof. Ghazanfar Hassan provided participants with practical insight into the professional landscape of dentistry in Britain and the options available to international dental graduates.

LUMHS students explore UK dentistry pathways

The seminar brought together final-year BDS students and postgraduate students of Dentistry, giving participants an opportunity to explore international career options at an important stage of their professional development.

Prof. Ghazanfar Hassan discussed potential career pathways in the UK and provided guidance relevant to Pakistani dental graduates and postgraduate trainees considering professional opportunities abroad.

The discussion was particularly relevant for students preparing to make decisions about their careers after completing their dental education, as international pathways can involve different professional structures, career routes and expectations compared with those in Pakistan.

Interactive session focuses on career planning

Rather than being limited to a formal presentation, the seminar included an interactive discussion in which students and postgraduate trainees shared their career aspirations and sought guidance from the experienced UK-based oral and maxillofacial surgeon.

The exchange allowed participants to raise questions about pursuing professional careers in the United Kingdom and gain a clearer understanding of the opportunities that may be available to Pakistani-trained dental professionals.

For students approaching graduation and postgraduate trainees planning their next professional step, the session offered an opportunity to consider international career development alongside conventional domestic career routes.

Experienced LUMHS alumnus shares UK perspective

Prof. Syed Ghazanfar Hassan's experience across both LUMHS and the UK healthcare system added a valuable perspective to the counselling session.

His current role as Consultant Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon at Luton & Dunstable University Hospital, together with his previous position as Professor of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at LUMHS, enabled him to share professional experience relevant to students considering an international dental career.

The seminar also encouraged participants to think strategically about their professional development and explore opportunities beyond Pakistan as they plan their future careers.

Session concludes with appreciation

The seminar concluded with expressions of appreciation and thanks to Prof. Syed Ghazanfar Hassan for sharing his experience, knowledge and guidance with LUMHS students and postgraduate trainees.

The session provided participants with valuable insight into dentistry careers in the UK, international career opportunities, professional pathways for Pakistani dentists and postgraduate career planning, while encouraging students to consider how international opportunities could fit into their long-term professional goals.

For the participating final-year BDS students and postgraduate trainees, the seminar served as an informative and engaging introduction to the possibilities that may await Pakistani dental professionals seeking to develop their careers in the United Kingdom.
