Free dental camp held for primary school children in Hyderabad
HYDERABAD: A free dental camp was organized at Government Girls Primary School (GGPS) Gul Muhammad Parhyar, Hussainabad, Hyderabad, to promote early oral health awareness and provide basic dental screening to schoolchildren. The one-day initiative, held recently, targeted students from primary to fifth grade, with nearly 100 children benefiting from dental checkups and educational activities.
The camp was arranged under the platform of Experience Dentistry by Syed Kazim Raza Shah, a third-year BDS student and Campus Associate of Isra University at Experience Dentistry. The clinical component of the camp was led by Dr. Hajra Anwer, Consultant Dental Surgeon and owner of Anwer Dental Care Clinic, who supervised the screenings and guided students on preventive care.
During the camp, children underwent oral examinations and dental screening aimed at identifying common oral health problems at an early stage. The dental team also provided oral hygiene instructions and practical demonstrations of correct brushing techniques, helping students understand the importance of daily dental care in a simple and engaging way.

According to the organizers, the most frequently observed dental conditions among the students were dental caries and fluorosis, reflecting broader public health challenges related to diet, water quality, and oral hygiene practices in school-age children. The findings highlighted the need for regular school-based dental programs and early preventive interventions.
The camp was supported by dental students and a House Officer, who assisted in conducting examinations and supervising the hands-on demonstrations. Platinum Pharmaceuticals sponsored the activity by providing free toothpastes and mouthwashes, which were distributed among students to encourage the adoption of proper oral hygiene habits at home.

In addition to clinical screening, health education formed a central part of the initiative. Children were educated on the importance of brushing twice daily, using the correct technique, and visiting a dentist regularly for checkups. Organizers emphasized that instilling good habits at an early age plays a critical role in preventing dental disease and reducing long-term treatment needs.
High-quality photographs were taken during the camp with appropriate permissions, documenting the screening process, brushing demonstrations, and educational sessions. These visual records will be used to promote awareness and encourage similar outreach activities in other schools and communities.
Organizers said the camp successfully met its objective of raising awareness about oral health among primary school children and demonstrated the impact of student-led community service initiatives. They added that such programs contribute to building a culture of prevention and early intervention, which is essential for improving overall community oral health outcomes.
