Ebtekar Rah Roshan delivers free dental, medical care at Mubarak Village, serving 477 patients

KARACHI: Just 1.5 hours from the bustling city of Karachi lies Mubarak Village, a picturesque coastal community known for its stunning beaches and nearby islands — but with no electricity, gas, clean water, mobile network, or access to healthcare. In a recent initiative, student-led organization Ebtekar Rah Roshan (ERR) turned words into action by organizing a full-day medical camp that brought free healthcare to hundreds of underserved residents.

Backed by the Pakistan Navy and in partnership with Sight Welfare, ERR treated 477 patients in a single day, setting up specialized OPDs in dentistry, ophthalmology, dermatology, gynecology, pediatrics, and internal medicine. Each patient received a medical check-up and free medicines for up to a month.

Transformative impact in a day

The camp not only addressed immediate health needs but also provided structured, data-driven healthcare interventions. All patient data was digitally captured through HMIS – ERR, the organization’s custom-built Health Management Information System. This system will help ERR track patient history, analyze disease prevalence, and design targeted, controlled future interventions for the community.

Among the patients treated:

  • 67% had skin conditions such as scabies.
  • 43% suffered from dental problems.
  • 34% faced eye-related issues, with several requiring surgical interventions.

According to ERR, 13% of all patients required advanced treatments — including eye surgeries and dental procedures — which were promptly referred and are being fully covered by ERR and Sight Welfare.

Beyond healthcare: A call for health equity

ERR emphasized that the mission was about more than medical treatment — it was about dignity, freedom, and hope. “Every patient reminded us that freedom is more than borders, it is health, dignity, and hope,” said an ERR representative.

The organization reaffirmed its commitment to bridging healthcare gaps through regular medical camps, health education programs, and mental health awareness campaigns, with the ultimate goal of ensuring health and cure for all.
