IADSR hosts hands‑on periodontology workshop for PDAGD participants
LAHORE: A hands‑on periodontology workshop was successfully conducted at the Institute of Advanced Dental Sciences and Research (IADSR) as part of its 18th Professional Diploma in Advanced General Dentistry (PDAGD). From 14 to 15 June 2025, participants gained practical skills under the guidance of Dr. Muhammad Haseeb, a renowned periodontist and Associate Professor at the University of Lahore.
The workshop began with an expert-led session on recognizing periodontal disease, covering key signs, symptoms, and distinctions between gingivitis and periodontitis. Dr. Haseeb demonstrated correct usage of periodontal probes to measure pocket depths and detect furcation involvement.
Participants then explored a wide range of periodontal surgical and non‑surgical techniques, including:
- Regenerative therapy, guided tissue regeneration, and bone grafting procedures
- Gingivectomy, periodontal flap therapies, and crown‑lengthening techniques
- Periodontal‑restorative interactions and the ferrule effect
- Aesthetic considerations, such as smile design and gummy smile correction
The highlight was a hands‑on typodont session, where participants performed surgical perio procedures and crown‑lengthening. Dr. Haseeb provided real‑time feedback, addressing challenges and clarifying clinical concerns. Two case studies further enriched the learning experience, allowing attendees to apply theoretical knowledge to practical scenarios.
The two‑day workshop concluded with participants meeting the learning objectives, equipped with enhanced confidence in diagnosing and managing periodontal conditions and applying esthetic principles in clinical practice.
