BADC students lead oral health awareness, screening activity in Larkana
LARKANA: The oral health awareness and screening activity conducted by the Department of Community Dentistry at Bibi Aseefa Dental College (BADC) Larkana has strengthened preventive oral health education among young schoolchildren. The session, led by faculty and second-year BDS students, focused on improving early childhood oral hygiene through interactive demonstrations and systematic screenings.
Promoting preventive oral health in early childhood
A team of second-year BDS students visited a local Larkana school where KG and ECC children received age-appropriate oral health education. Students used simple demonstrations and visual tools to explain correct brushing techniques, the importance of limiting sugary snacks, and the value of routine dental checkups.
Under the supervision of Prof. Dr. A. Bari Memon, Chairperson of the Department of Community Dentistry, the team carried out oral screenings for the children. They assessed basic oral hygiene status, identified early signs requiring follow-up, and offered guidance to teachers and school staff on maintaining children’s daily oral care habits.
Strengthening community engagement, oral health
This activity is part of the department’s ongoing commitment to community dentistry, preventive care, and public oral health advocacy. Such school-based initiatives help reduce the risk of early childhood caries and build lifelong healthy dental habits.
The department emphasized that integrating oral health promotion, screening programs, and community-based education is essential for improving the long-term oral health outcomes of children in underserved and local communities.
