JAMSHORO: A student-led initiative aimed at improving oral health awareness among young students recently brought dental education, preventive care, and interactive learning activities to a government girls school in Jamshoro.
The Special Care Dental Alliance (SCDA), a non-profit organization led by students of Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUMHS), organized a dental awareness camp at Govt Girls Higher Secondary School, Colony Jamshoro, as part of ongoing efforts to promote preventive oral healthcare and community engagement.

The initiative focused on educating schoolgirls about the importance of oral hygiene, early dental care, and healthy daily habits that can help prevent common dental diseases.
Dental checkups and oral hygiene awareness
During the camp, participating students received basic dental checkups and oral health screenings conducted by members of the SCDA team.
Awareness sessions were also organized to educate students about:
• Proper toothbrushing techniques
• The importance of regular dental checkups
• Prevention of tooth decay and gum disease
• Healthy dietary habits for oral health
The impact of poor oral hygiene on overall wellbeing
Organizers said the goal was not only to provide awareness but also to encourage young students to develop long-term preventive healthcare habits from an early age.
Interactive activities designed to engage students

In addition to counseling sessions and oral health education, the camp included interactive gaming stations and a dental-themed photobooth aimed at making oral healthcare learning more engaging and student-friendly.
The activity-based approach helped create a more welcoming environment where students could participate comfortably while learning about dental hygiene and preventive care.
Public health experts often stress that interactive and school-based awareness initiatives can play a significant role in improving oral health literacy among children and adolescents, particularly in underserved communities.
Growing role of student-led healthcare initiatives

Student-driven healthcare outreach programs have increasingly become an important part of community health promotion efforts across Pakistan, especially in areas where access to preventive dental education remains limited.
Such initiatives not only help spread awareness about oral diseases and hygiene practices but also encourage future healthcare professionals to engage directly with community health challenges.

The recent camp in Jamshoro reflects a broader growing emphasis on preventive dentistry, oral health education, and community-based healthcare outreach led by medical and dental students.
Healthcare educators have repeatedly emphasized that early oral health awareness among schoolchildren can help reduce the long-term burden of dental diseases, improve quality of life, and encourage healthier lifestyles later in life.
