On the occasion of World Oral Health Day 2025, leading dental professionals in Pakistan have emphasized the critical role of oral hygiene in maintaining overall health. Dr. Qurat-Ul-Ain, Head of Community Dentistry at Abbottabad International Dental College (AIDC), and Dr. Benish Aleem, Head of Oral Pathology at Khyber Medical University Peshawar, shared their insights, urging people to adopt preventive oral care habits to safeguard their well-being.

Oral Health: A Key to Overall Well-Being

Dr. Qurat-Ul-Ain highlighted that oral diseases can affect a person’s nutrition, speech, and self-confidence, particularly in children, including those with special needs. She stressed the importance of regular brushing, dental check-ups, and a balanced diet to prevent oral diseases.

"At AIDC, we are committed to raising awareness and ensuring that every child receives the care they need for a healthy smile. Oral health is not just about appearance; it directly impacts a person’s overall quality of life," she said.

Oral Diseases Are Preventable—Take Action Now!

Dr. Benish Aleem emphasized that oral health is much more than just a bright smile—it is about preventing cavities, gum disease, and oral cancers. She urged people to brush twice a day, visit the dentist every six months, limit sugary foods, and avoid tobacco products.

"Tooth decay is the most common dental problem, yet it is completely preventable. By maintaining good oral hygiene, you not only protect your teeth but also boost your confidence and overall health," Dr. Benish stated.

Both experts called for greater awareness and action, reinforcing the official FDI World Dental Federation theme for 2025, “A Happy Mouth is a Happy Mind.”

A Nationwide Call for Better Oral Health Habits

As Pakistan joins the global community in celebrating World Oral Health Day, dental professionals, health organizations, and the public are urged to take proactive steps in preventing oral diseases. Regular dental visits, proper brushing techniques, and a healthy lifestyle are key to ensuring lifelong healthy smiles.
