Ebtekar Rah Roshan expands community dental care through mobile outreach initiative
KARACHI: In a significant step toward improving access to oral healthcare in underserved coastal areas, Ebtekar Rah Roshan (ERR) successfully delivered mobile dental services to Keti Bandar during a recent comprehensive medical and dental camp. The initiative marked the first-ever field use of ERR’s newly acquired portable dental unit, bringing chairside dental care directly to the community.
The camp was held at RHQ Keti Bandar by Ebtekar Rah Roshan (ERR) and Sight Welfare Organisation, in collaboration with Sahil Welfare Association, Shield, and the Pakistan Navy, reflecting a strong multi-sector partnership focused on community wellbeing.
Over 500 patients served in comprehensive medical camp
According to organisers, the medical camp provided healthcare services to 521 patients from the local community, addressing a wide range of medical and dental needs. Among the various services offered, the Dental OPD emerged as a key highlight of the initiative.
The Dental OPD alone screened between 250 and 300 patients, underscoring the scale of unmet oral health needs in the region and the importance of mobile dental outreach programs.
On-ground dental care using a portable dental unit
The use of ERR’s portable dental unit enabled the dental team to provide preventive and curative dental care on site, a milestone achievement for the organisation’s community-based dental mission.
Patients presenting with proximal surface cavities received atraumatic restorative treatment (ART) fillings using restorative glass ionomer cement (GIC). Painless dental extractions were carried out for mobile teeth causing discomfort, while scaling procedures were performed for patients with calculus deposits, gingivitis, and early-stage periodontitis.
Clinicians noted that patients are expected to experience significant clinical improvement following these interventions.
Treatment, education, and preventive care combined
In addition to clinical procedures, patients presenting with oral infections, swelling, and ulcers were prescribed appropriate medications. To reinforce long-term oral health, toothbrushes and toothpaste were distributed, and patients were educated on correct brushing techniques and essential oral hygiene practices.

Dental health professionals at the camp emphasized that such preventive education is critical in areas with limited access to routine dental services.
Gratitude and a call for continued support
Ebtekar Rah Roshan extended sincere appreciation to all volunteers, partners, and supporters whose commitment made the initiative possible. The organisation highlighted that continued trust and generosity from donors and collaborators enable the expansion of community-based dental care services to remote and underserved populations.
ERR has encouraged individuals and organisations to support its mission through donations, helping scale mobile dental services and reach more communities in need.
