IADSR hosts hands-on workshop on dental implants for general dental practitioners
LAHORE: The Institute of Advanced Dental Sciences and Research (IADSR) successfully hosted a one-day workshop on dental implants for general dental practitioners, recently. Part of the IADSR's 20th Professional Diploma in Advanced General Dentistry (PDAGD), the workshop provided an in-depth, hands-on learning experience aimed at enhancing practitioners' skills in the evolving field of dental implants.
Expert facilitation and insights
The workshop was led by Dr. Amin-Ur-Rahman, a renowned dental expert with an impressive academic background, including faculty positions at the University of Michigan Ann Arbor and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, USA. Dr. Rahman began the session with an overview of implant statistics and a historical background, setting the stage for a deep dive into the science and practice of dental implants.
He guided participants through the anatomy of alveolar bone and its relationship to both teeth and implants. In particular, Dr. Rahman emphasized different types of implants, including tissue-level and bone-level implants, highlighting their materials and applications in clinical settings.
Focused surgical technique training
The core of the workshop was dedicated to practical, hands-on training. Dr. Rahman shared detailed guidelines on the surgical procedure for dental implants, emphasizing the importance of proper communication and planning to ensure successful outcomes. He also addressed the critical issue of implant failures, offering insights into both early and late-stage complications, and how to mitigate risks.
Participants were given the opportunity to engage in hands-on practice on typodont models, allowing them to gain practical experience and solve problems they might encounter during actual procedures. This interactive element proved to be a major highlight, with attendees expressing enthusiasm and appreciation for the valuable real-world experience provided.
A comprehensive learning environment
The session was well-received by all participants, with positive feedback on the depth of knowledge shared and the interactive nature of the workshop. The learning was not only technical but also included real-life case studies, such as single and multiple tooth replacements and cemented screw-retained prostheses, which added practical value to the educational experience.
Enhancing professional competence
Dr. Rahman’s expert facilitation, alongside the contributions of IADSR’s leadership, ensured that the workshop delivered high-quality, up-to-date knowledge to general dental practitioners, equipping them with the skills needed to perform dental implant procedures confidently. The session reinforced IADSR's commitment to providing continuous professional development for dental practitioners.
Looking ahead
With dental implants becoming an increasingly integral part of modern dental practice, this workshop represented an important step in enhancing the knowledge and skills of dental professionals. As the field of dental implants evolves, workshops like these will remain essential in helping practitioners stay updated and provide the highest standard of care.
