HYDERABAD: Funeral prayers (Namaz-e-Janaza) for Prof. Dr Muhammad Issa Arain, one of Pakistan's most respected dental educators and pioneering academic leaders, will be offered today (Tuesday, July 14, 2026), after Zuhr prayers at 1:30 PM at Bilal Masjid, Defence Phase I, Hyderabad, according to the family.

The announcement comes a day after the veteran dental educator passed away following an illness. Prof. Dr Arain had been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Asian Hospital, Hyderabad, where he breathed his last, leaving behind a legacy that shaped Pakistan's dental education for more than six decades.

A distinguished academic and former Principal of the Dental Department at Liaquat Medical College, as well as former Principal of Fatima Jinnah Dental College (FJDC), Prof. Dr Arain was widely regarded as one of Pakistan's most respected figures in dentistry. Throughout his career, he remained committed to academic excellence, professional ethics, and the development of future generations of dental surgeons.

Prof. Dr Arain holds the distinction of being the founding Head of the Institute of Dentistry at LMC. His association with the institution began in 1963, when he joined as a demonstrator after completing his Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) in Lahore. Over the following decades, he played a defining role in establishing and strengthening dental education in Sindh and across Pakistan.

His contributions extended far beyond classrooms and administrative offices. Hundreds of his former students went on to become consultants, teachers, researchers and institutional leaders, often crediting him for instilling discipline, professionalism and a lifelong commitment to learning.

Prof. Dr Arain is survived by his son, Dr Salman Issa, a consultant haematologist, and his daughter-in-law, Dr Saima Salman, a dental surgeon and Assistant Professor at Bhitai Dental College, Mirpurkhas.

As colleagues, students and members of the dental fraternity gather to offer their final respects, Prof. Dr Arain's passing marks the end of an era in Pakistan's dental profession. His enduring contributions to dental education and institution-building will continue to inspire future generations of educators and clinicians.
