Prof. Dr Muhammad Issa Arain, pioneering dental educator and former FJDC principal, passes away

Former Head of Dentistry at Liaquat Medical College and the founding head of the Institute of Dentistry at LUMHS, Prof. Dr Muhammad Issa Arain leaves behind a legacy spanning more than six decades in dental education and academic leadership.

HYDERABAD: Prof. Dr Muhammad Issa Arain, one of Pakistan's most respected dental educators and a pioneering figure in dental academia, has passed away in Hyderabad.
According to family sources, Prof. Dr Arain had been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Asian Hospital, Hyderabad, where he breathed his last.

A distinguished academic and former Principal of Fatima Jinnah Dental College (FJDC), Prof. Dr Arain played a pivotal role in shaping dental education in Pakistan. He was widely regarded as one of the senior-most members of the country's dental fraternity, with a career devoted to teaching, academic leadership and professional development.

Prof. Dr Arain holds the distinction of being the first Head of the Institute of Dentistry at the Liaquat University of Medical & Health Sciences (LUMHS). His association with the institution began in 1963, when he joined as a demonstrator after completing his Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) in Lahore.

Throughout his distinguished career, he mentored generations of dental students, many of whom later assumed leadership positions in clinical practice, academia and research. Colleagues and former students remember him as a dedicated teacher, disciplined administrator and an institution builder whose contributions helped strengthen dental education in Pakistan.

He is survived by his son, Dr Salman Issa, a consultant haematologist, and his daughter-in-law, Dr Saima Salman, a dental surgeon and Assistant Professor at Bhitai Dental College, Mirpurkhas.

Funeral arrangements will be announced later. According to the family sources, the funeral prayers are expected to be offered either in Hyderabad or his native hometown of Sanghar.

The passing of Prof. Dr Muhammad Issa Arain marks the end of an era for Pakistan's dental community, which has lost one of its pioneering educators and most respected mentors.
