KARACHI: Two recent graduates of the Altamash Institute of Dental Medicine (AIDM), Karachi, have achieved international recognition after being selected for a prestigious global oral health leadership initiative and receiving a fully funded opportunity to present their research in the United States.

Muhammad Ali Syed and Shamim Ashraf, both recent Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) graduates from AIDM, were selected for the highly competitive Student Leadership Global Oral Health Program 2026, a nine-month virtual leadership and professional development course designed to prepare emerging oral health professionals for leadership roles in global healthcare.

As part of their selection, the graduates were awarded full scholarships supported by the Alliance for Oral Health Across Borders, enabling them to participate in and present their research work at the One Voice Conference 2026, held from June 4 to 6 in Dallas, Texas, USA.
The achievement marks a significant milestone not only for the students but also for Pakistan’s dental education community, highlighting the growing presence of young Pakistani dental researchers in international academic and professional forums.
The Student Leadership Global Oral Health Program brings together promising dental students and young professionals from different countries, providing mentorship, leadership training, and opportunities for cross-border collaboration in oral healthcare. Participation in such programs helps future dental professionals develop the skills needed to address global oral health challenges through research, advocacy, and community engagement.
The successful selection of Muhammad Ali Syed and Shamim Ashraf reflects their commitment to academic excellence, research, and leadership development. Their participation in the One Voice Conference provided an opportunity to engage with international experts, researchers, policymakers, and oral health advocates while showcasing research contributions from Pakistan on a global stage.
Educational leaders note that international exposure and participation in global academic platforms play a vital role in strengthening research culture, professional development, and innovation within Pakistan’s healthcare sector. Such achievements also encourage greater collaboration between Pakistani institutions and global oral health organizations.
The accomplishment underscores AIDM’s continued emphasis on fostering research, leadership, and international engagement among its students and graduates. It also reflects the increasing recognition being earned by Pakistani dental professionals in global academic and healthcare communities.
As Muhammad Ali Syed and Shamim Ashraf represent both Altamash Institute of Dental Medicine and Pakistan in an international setting, their achievement serves as an inspiration for aspiring dental students seeking to pursue research, leadership, and global health opportunities.
