Hamdard University Dental Hospital hosts workshop on periodontitis and its modern management
KARACHI: The Hamdard University Dental Hospital, in collaboration with the department of community dentistry, organized an academic and clinical workshop titled “Periodontitis and its management: contemporary diagnostic and therapeutic advances.” The initiative aimed to enhance clinical understanding and equip dental professionals with modern, evidence-based approaches for managing periodontal diseases.
The workshop featured a keynote lecture by Prof. Syed Imran Hasan, who provided an in-depth overview of the latest global developments in the diagnosis and treatment of periodontitis. His session emphasized the importance of early detection, advanced imaging technologies, and minimally invasive treatment methods that are reshaping periodontal care.
Following the lecture, Dr. Saima Asim and Dr. Shikoh Naz, associate professors at the department, facilitated the practical component of the workshop. Participants—including undergraduate students, house officers, and faculty members—actively engaged in a range of hands-on clinical exercises, including the chill test, plaque test, and bone mineral density (BMD) test.
The practical segment was conducted in collaboration with GSK, allowing participants to gain experiential exposure to real-world periodontal diagnostic techniques. These exercises reinforced participants’ theoretical knowledge and helped improve their clinical proficiency in periodontal assessment.
The event successfully bridged the gap between academic learning and clinical application, embodying the principles of evidence-based dentistry. It also promoted professional development among attendees, reflecting hamdard university’s continued commitment to advancing dental education and research in Pakistan.
