KARACHI: Mastering shade selection workshop offered an immersive learning experience for final‑year BDS students at the Altamash Institute of Dental Medicine (AIDM), focusing on clinical integration of the VITA 3D‑Master shade system and the digital VITA Easyshade tool. This specialized prosthodontics training reinforced AIDM’s commitment to delivering world‑class, esthetically driven dental education.
The session began with an interactive lecture in Lecture Hall 2, where participants explored the fundamentals of the VITA 3D‑Master shade system and learned to interpret shade distribution charts accurately. Expert facilitators Prof. Dr. Naseer Ahmed PhD, FCPS (Prosthodontics), BDS, Dr. Shuja Adil MDS (Prosthodontics), BDS, and Dr. Wajiha Zia FCPS II (Prosthodontics), BDS, guided students through best practices to ensure consistent shade matching in clinical settings.
Key learning objectives:
- Understanding the hierarchy and nuances of the VITA 3D‑Master shade system
- Interpreting and utilizing shade distribution charts for predictable outcomes
- Applying guidelines for accurate and consistent manual shade selection
- Observing a live demonstration of digital shade matching using the VITA Easyshade tool
Following the theoretical overview, students engaged in hands‑on practice stations equipped with the VITA Easyshade device. They worked in small groups to compare manual and digital shade‑matching techniques, honing their ability to select the optimal enamel and dentin hues under standardized lighting conditions.
