ISLAMABAD: In a significant move towards transforming medical education in Pakistan, Islamabad Medical & Dental College (IMDC), in collaboration with Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University (SZABMU), has launched an internationally aligned Clinical AI Healthcare Certificate Program, introducing healthcare professionals to the practical applications of artificial intelligence in modern clinical practice.
The one-month weekend certification program has commenced with an overwhelming response from medical, dental, nursing and allied health sciences students, young doctors and other healthcare professionals eager to develop digital competencies that are rapidly becoming essential across healthcare systems worldwide.
The initiative reflects a growing recognition that artificial intelligence is no longer a future concept but an increasingly integral component of clinical decision-making, patient care, healthcare management and medical education.
Program inaugurated by SZABMU vice chancellor
The Clinical AI Healthcare Certificate Program was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Tanveer Khaliq, Vice Chancellor of Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University, who described artificial intelligence as "the real need of the time" and praised IMDC for taking a forward-looking step towards modernizing healthcare education in Pakistan.
"This is the direction in which healthcare education is moving globally. SZABMU will continue extending its complete support to IMDC not only for this Clinical AI Healthcare Certificate Program but also for future AI-driven academic and professional initiatives that promote innovation, digital health and excellence in medical education."
His remarks highlighted the importance of institutional collaboration in ensuring that Pakistan's future healthcare professionals are equipped with the knowledge and technological competencies required by rapidly evolving healthcare systems.
International curriculum led by UK faculty
The certification program has been designed and is being delivered by faculty from Ulster University, Belfast, United Kingdom, under the leadership of Assistant Professor Dr. Usman Hadi.
According to IMDC, the curriculum has been developed in line with the evolving needs of healthcare systems in the United Kingdom, the United States and other advanced international markets, enabling participants to gain internationally relevant knowledge in clinical artificial intelligence and digital healthcare.
Rather than focusing solely on theory, the program aims to provide practical clinical AI competencies that healthcare professionals can apply within increasingly technology-enabled healthcare environments.
