RAWALPINDI: Imagine a room where future dental professionals don the roles of world leaders, UN officials, and global health advocates—all in one afternoon. That was the reality at Rawal Institute of Health Sciences’ (RIHS) Department of Community Dentistry, where second-year BDS students transformed into international problem-solvers during a high-stakes Mini United Nations Seminar.

The event was more than an academic exercise—it was a live simulation of nine of the world’s most influential international organizations: UNICEF, WHO, UNDP, World Bank, IMF, FAO, UNHCR, WFP, and UNFPA. Each student group presented a multimedia showcase highlighting their organization’s contributions to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), and specific health milestones in Pakistan.
The seminar ignited critical thinking, debate, and peer-to-peer engagement as every presentation was followed by a rigorous Q&A session. Students analyzed complex global health challenges, debated policy solutions, and explored how interdisciplinary collaboration can improve public health outcomes—skills essential for tomorrow’s dental leaders.

After intense evaluation by a distinguished faculty panel, Group Yellow 1 (UNFPA) emerged as champions, followed by Group White 2 (WHO) and Group Gray 1 (UNHCR). The panel comprised Dr. Adeela Awan, Assistant Professor, and Dr. Aatir Mujeeb, Senior Registrar, while moderators Dr. Umar Zaman and Dr. Aleeza Tayyab, Demonstrators, ensured smooth execution. Prof. Dr. Rubina Mumtaz, Head of the Department of Community Dentistry, oversaw the meticulous planning and organization.
“The seminar goes beyond academics—it equips our students with global health literacy, teamwork, public speaking, and analytical skills crucial for future dental professionals,” emphasized the Department of Community Dentistry, RIHS.
The Department reaffirmed its commitment to hosting such initiatives in future semesters, aiming to nurture globally aware, academically engaged, and socially responsible dental graduates.
