MIRPURKHAS: Schoolchildren at the Meritorious and Talented Candidate (MTC) School in Mirpurkhas received free dental check-ups, oral health education, and hygiene kits during a community outreach initiative organized by the Special Care Dental Alliance (SCDA).
The dental awareness and screening camp was aimed at promoting preventive oral healthcare among children and encouraging healthy habits at an early age. The initiative forms part of SCDA’s broader efforts to improve oral health awareness and expand access to basic dental services, particularly in underserved communities.
During the camp, students participated in interactive oral health education sessions featuring presentations and informative videos on the importance of proper brushing techniques, maintaining good oral hygiene, and preventing common dental problems.
Alongside the awareness activities, dental professionals conducted individual oral examinations of all students to assess their dental health and provide guidance on maintaining healthy teeth and gums.
To reinforce the lessons learned during the camp, toothpaste and toothbrushes were distributed among the students with the support of Colgate, helping encourage the adoption of daily oral hygiene practices.
The outreach activity was conducted under the guidance of SCDA Founder Raj Kumar. The organizing team included Dr. Vishaka Hotwani, SCDA Brand Ambassador for Mirpurkhas, and Dr. Malika, SCDA Brand Ambassador for Umerkot.
A team of volunteer dentists and dental professionals also participated in the initiative, including Dr. Aliza, Dr. Fatima, Dr. Laiba Asif, Dr. Mehak Gohar, Dr. Umama Waseem, Dr. Sonia Rathore, and Dr. Joti Lohana.
SCDA has been actively involved in community-based oral health initiatives focused on awareness, prevention, and early intervention. Such school-based programs play an important role in identifying dental issues early while educating children about lifelong oral healthcare practices.
As oral diseases remain among the most common health problems affecting children worldwide, dental professionals emphasize that preventive education and regular screenings are key to improving long-term oral health outcomes.
