Special Olympics Pakistan partners with AIMI to provide free dental checkups for athletes

ABBOTTABAD: The Special Olympics Pakistan, in collaboration with Abbottabad International Medical Institute (AIMI), successfully hosted a Special Smiles screening event dedicated to improving oral health for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The initiative provided free dental checkups to 24 athletes, ensuring that every participant received essential care and education for healthier smiles.

Out of the 24 athletes examined, 15 required follow-up treatment, which is now underway to ensure continuity of care. This event was organized under the Special Olympics Healthy Athletes Program, which emphasizes preventive healthcare, athlete well-being, and bridging gaps in access to medical and dental services.

Athletes received a wide range of dental services, including:

  • Fluoride varnish applications for cavity prevention
  • Oral hygiene education with proper brushing and flossing techniques
  • Custom mouthguard fittings for protection during sports activities
