KARACHI: Alkhidmat Punjab Chowrangi Branch, Clifton, organised a Free Dental Checkup and Oral Health Awareness Visit at Zamzama Grammar School, Clifton, providing students with dental screening and education focused on preventive oral healthcare.

The initiative combined free dental checkups with an oral hygiene awareness session aimed at helping schoolchildren understand the importance of maintaining healthy teeth and gums from an early age.

During the visit, students were educated about proper brushing techniques, healthy dietary habits and the importance of regular dental visits, according to the organisers.

The programme reflects a preventive approach to oral health, with the organisers seeking to encourage children to develop positive oral hygiene practices that can continue beyond the school setting.

Free dental checkups bring preventive care closer to students

As part of the outreach activity, students at Zamzama Grammar School were provided with free dental checkups.

School-based dental initiatives can provide an opportunity to identify oral health concerns while also introducing children to basic preventive practices. Alongside the clinical component, the Alkhidmat team used the visit to reinforce the importance of daily oral hygiene and informed choices that can contribute to better oral health.

The awareness session particularly focused on how children brush their teeth, what they eat and how regularly they seek dental care — three practical areas that can influence long-term oral health.

Rather than limiting the activity to dental examinations, the organisers placed emphasis on helping students understand the habits and behaviours that support preventive dental care.

Oral health education focuses on everyday habits

The visit highlighted the importance of making oral health part of children's everyday routines.

Students were guided on proper brushing techniques, helping reinforce the role of effective toothbrushing in maintaining oral hygiene. The session also addressed healthy dietary habits, highlighting the connection between everyday food choices and oral health.

The organisers also stressed the importance of regular dental visits, encouraging students to view dental care as a routine part of maintaining their health rather than something to seek only when dental problems arise.

Such awareness at school age can help children develop greater familiarity with oral healthcare and the practices involved in preventing common dental problems.

Dental team leads school outreach activity

The outreach team comprised Dr. Mustafa, Mr. Imran (assistant), and Mr. Azim (administrator).

Dr. Syed Mustafa Ali, Dental Surgeon BDS, RDS, represented Alkhidmat Punjab Chowrangi Branch, Clifton, in the initiative.

The organisers said the activity formed part of their commitment to community dental health and preventive care, with a focus on extending oral health awareness to children through community outreach.

The initiative also provided an opportunity to bring dental professionals into a school environment, where oral health messages can reach children directly and be reinforced through practical guidance.

From checkups to awareness: the wider message

The organisers' emphasis on both dental screening and oral health education underscores the broader role of preventive dentistry in community healthcare.

For children, developing appropriate oral hygiene habits early can help establish a foundation for lifelong dental care. Guidance on brushing, diet and regular dental visits can also help families and schools keep oral health on the agenda beyond occasional dental camps or checkups.

Alkhidmat Punjab Chowrangi Branch, Clifton, said it would continue its focus on community dental health and preventive care through outreach activities.

The organisation has also invited Dental News Pakistan to visit its branch to showcase its facilities and discuss future outreach programmes, potentially providing further opportunities to highlight community-based oral healthcare initiatives.

The Zamzama Grammar School visit ultimately placed a simple message at the centre of the activity: oral health education that begins in childhood can help shape healthier dental habits for years to come.
