Medical emergencies management workshop enhances preparedness for dental professionals
TAXILA, RAWALPINDI: A workshop on “Medical Emergencies Management in Dental Setting” was successfully conducted on 22nd October 2025 by the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery - Dental College HITEC-IMS, in collaboration with the Pakistan Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons (PAOMS). The full-day intensive event was aimed at enhancing the awareness and preparedness of dental professionals in managing common medical emergencies that may arise in a dental setting.
Comprehensive training on emergency protocols
The workshop was designed to educate participants on the recognition, prevention, and prompt management of medical emergencies that are commonly encountered in dental clinics. It included a mix of interactive lectures, live demonstrations, role play, and hands-on training. Topics covered in the workshop included:
- CPR and cardiac defibrillation
- Endotracheal intubation
- Cricothyroidotomy
- IV cannulation techniques
- Oxygen cylinder handling and administration
- Emergency cart protocols
- Management of common medical emergencies like hypersensitivity reactions, foreign body aspiration, MI (Myocardial Infarction), angina, and seizures.

The workshop featured renowned experts in the field of oral and maxillofacial surgery and anesthesiology. Col. (Retd.) Prof. Dr. Muhammad Wasim Ibrahim, a distinguished maxillofacial surgeon, and Brig. (Retd.) Prof. Dr. Amanatullah Khan, Head of Anesthesiology at HITEC-IMS, along with Prof. Dr. Irfan Shah, Principal of Dental College HITEC-IMS, facilitated the sessions. Their expertise provided invaluable insights to participants on managing medical crises effectively in a dental environment.
