Iqbal’s message guides dental professionals at FMH College of Dentistry lecture
LAHORE: The Fatima Memorial Hospital College of Dentistry (FMHCD) hosted an inspiring lecture titled “Iqbal’s Message in the Modern Age”, delivered by Dr. Amjad Ali Khan, BDS, DDS (USA). The session was attended by final year BDS students, house surgeons, postgraduate trainees, and faculty members.
Dr. Khan emphasized Allama Iqbal’s vision as a guiding framework for today’s professionals, urging young dentists to uphold dignity, integrity, and commitment to excellence in both clinical and personal lives. He highlighted the central role of Khudi (selfhood) and self-esteem in character building and professional growth.
Iqbal’s ideals for leadership and progress
Drawing upon Iqbal’s powerful symbols—the Shaheen, Mard-e-Momin, and Insaan-e-Kamil—Dr. Khan described them as metaphors for leadership, vision, moral courage, and devotion to humanity. He encouraged students to pursue academic excellence and take on leadership roles, while reminding faculty of their responsibility in advancing research, fostering character development, and preparing future generations of dental professionals.
A major part of his lecture addressed Iqbal’s philosophy of Islamic democracy and social justice, where honesty, equality, and merit form the foundation of national progress. Dr. Khan also distinguished between modernization and westernization, advocating the adoption of modern science and technology while preserving cultural and ethical values.
Institutional recognition and appreciation
The lecture was attended by Mrs. Shaheema Rehman, Chairperson Executive Committee, Nur Fatima Memorial System, and Professor Abid Ashar, Principal, FMH College of Dentistry. Both leaders appreciated Dr. Khan for contextualizing Iqbal’s message for dental professionals and reinforcing the importance of aligning clinical excellence with ethical responsibility.
The session concluded with an engaging Q&A, leaving students and faculty motivated to integrate professional competence with moral values in building a just, ethical, and progressive society.
