Communication skills workshop at JMDC empowers BDS students and faculty
KARACHI: The department of dental education at JMDC organized a highly engaging communication skills workshop for 3rd year BDS students and clinical dental faculty, focusing on the Calgary-Cambridge and Kalamazoo models of patient communication.
The interactive workshop was facilitated by Prof Dr Marium Iqbal, who guided participants through structured patient interviewing techniques designed to enhance clinical communication and patient care outcomes.
Students were divided into groups and paired with clinical supervisors to develop and perform scripts based on the assigned communication model. This role-play exercise encouraged active participation, critical thinking, and application of theory to practical scenarios, making the session an immersive learning experience.
The workshop also witnessed insightful participation from Dr Fadieleh Sohail (director academics) and Prof Dr M Junaid Lakhani (principal dental college), whose involvement added depth and mentorship to the session.
The initiative reflects JMDC’s commitment to competency-based dental education, equipping students and faculty with essential skills to strengthen doctor-patient relationships and improve treatment outcomes.
