LAHORE: Keeping in view the growing importance of pediatric dentistry, the Institute of Advanced Dental Sciences and Research (IADSR) organized a one-day hands-on workshop on September 21, 2025, as part of its 19th Professional Diploma in Advanced General Dentistry (PDAGD).

The workshop was unique because it dedicated a full day to pediatric dentistry, offering participants the opportunity to learn under the guidance of Prof. Arham Nawaz Chohan, an eminent professor of pediatric dentistry at CMH Lahore.

Prof. Arham explained the importance of thorough examination and structured treatment planning for pediatric dental patients. He discussed the advantages of working with a proper plan, the disadvantages of proceeding without one, and shared insights on antibiotics usage and behavioral management techniques for children.

Participants gained practical exposure through hands-on procedures, including:

  • Pulp therapy in primary dentition, from clinical diagnosis to treatment
  • Posterior stainless steel crown placement
  • Anterior strip crown restoration on typhodonts

Prof. Arham personally supervised participants’ work, helping them resolve complications faced during the procedures.

The workshop also covered critical topics such as pulp therapy in young permanent teeth, management of trauma in primary and permanent dentition, and the role of radiography in pediatric dentistry. Participants learned about apexogenesis, apexification, space management in children, and reattachment of fractured tooth fragments. MTA pulpotomy and administration of local anesthesia in children were also discussed in detail.

The session concluded with an interactive discussion where Prof. Arham addressed iatrogenic cases, emphasized preventive approaches, and highlighted how accurate treatment planning can improve long-term patient outcomes.

The workshop successfully achieved its learning objectives, equipping participants with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills to deliver quality pediatric dental care.
