You brush your teeth every day. But is that enough to protect your health?
In Sargodha, a movement is quietly reshaping how Pakistan sees oral health. This World Oral Health Day 2026, Niazi Dental College (NDC) stepped beyond classrooms to ignite a nationwide conversation about prevention, awareness, and community action.
It wasn’t just a walk. It was a wake-up call.
Faculty, students, and healthcare professionals marched through the campus and Niazi Welfare Foundation Teaching Hospital, carrying banners that shouted a simple yet urgent truth: oral health is public health, and prevention is the only solution.
“Our goal is to shift the focus from curative treatment to preventive care,” said representatives from the Department of Community Dentistry. “Educating the community today reduces the burden of oral diseases for generations tomorrow.”
The crisis Pakistan can’t ignore
Dental caries and periodontal diseases are rising nationwide. The real issue isn’t just disease—it’s:
- Late diagnosis
- Lack of awareness
- A healthcare system focused more on treatment than prevention
Simple daily habits, if widely practiced, can dramatically change this picture:
- Brush twice daily
- Reduce sugar intake
- Schedule regular dental check-ups
Education meets action
The Department of Dental Education emphasized that future dentists must be more than clinicians—they must be public health advocates. Because the fight against oral disease isn’t fought in dental chairs alone—it begins in homes, schools, and communities.

The walk was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Mian Farrukh Imran and concluded with thanks from Dr. AG Niazi, while Dr. Farhan Riaz was recognized for organizing this transformative initiative.
A live demonstration of proper brushing techniques closed the event—simple, yet essential.
“Sometimes, the biggest health challenges aren’t due to lack of solutions—they’re due to lack of implementation,” the organizers reminded attendees.
This is more than a college initiative—it’s a national movement urging Pakistan to shift from neglect to awareness, and from treatment to prevention. Oral health is not just about smiles—it’s about dignity, confidence, and overall wellbeing.
