KARACHI: Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS), through its School of Dental Care Professionals in collaboration with the Institute of Business and Health Management (IBHM), organized a career counselling session for newly graduated students of the Dental Hygiene and Dental Technology programmes, helping them prepare for the next stage of their professional journey beyond internship.

The session was held as graduates get ready to begin their one-year paid internship programme, serving as an important milestone to help them understand the career opportunities available after completing their internship and plan for long-term professional growth.

Preparing graduates for careers beyond internship

During the session, participants were encouraged to think strategically about their future careers and explore pathways that extend beyond clinical practice.

A major focus of the counselling programme was to motivate graduates to pursue higher education in order to broaden their professional opportunities and strengthen their future career prospects.

University representatives highlighted how graduates can build on their expertise in Dental Hygiene or Dental Technology by pursuing postgraduate education in complementary disciplines.

Encouraging interdisciplinary postgraduate education

The session emphasized that combining professional knowledge in dental care with advanced education in fields such as Healthcare Management, Public Health, Health Informatics, Business Administration, Education and Research can help graduates prepare for leadership positions within the rapidly evolving healthcare sector.

The discussion encouraged students to view lifelong learning as an essential component of professional success and career advancement.

Supporting lifelong professional success

According to the organizers, the initiative reflects Dow University of Health Sciences' continued commitment to supporting the lifelong success of its graduates rather than focusing solely on employment after graduation.

The approach aligns with the vision of the university's Vice Chancellor, which emphasizes preparing graduates for leadership, innovation, lifelong learning and meaningful contributions to society alongside successful professional careers.

Graduates actively explore future opportunities

The organizers described the graduates' enthusiastic participation throughout the session as highly encouraging.

Students actively engaged in discussions, asked thoughtful questions, explored diverse career pathways and demonstrated a strong interest in pursuing advanced education to further develop their professional capabilities.

Building the future dental workforce

As the graduates prepare to begin their one-year paid internship programme, the career counselling session provided guidance on planning sustainable careers while encouraging continuous learning and professional development.

The university extended its congratulations to the graduating students and expressed confidence in their future success as they move towards impactful careers in dental healthcare and allied health professions.
