KARACHI: What if the dentists who will treat Pakistan a decade from now are sitting in classrooms today? That future officially began as Jinnah Medical & Dental College welcomed BDS Batch 28 with a grand Commencement Day ceremony and structured orientation programme, turning a routine academic event into a defining moment for the country’s next wave of dental professionals.

The ceremony brought together the complete dental and medical faculty associated with the BDS programme, underscoring the institution’s collective commitment to shaping clinically skilled, ethically grounded and patient-focused dentists. The event opened with inspiring welcome addresses by Prof. Dr. M. Junaid Lakhani, Principal of the Dental College, and Prof. Dr. Atif Mehmood, Principal of the Medical College, who congratulated the incoming students and urged them to uphold professionalism, compassion and academic excellence from day one.

Adding a powerful institutional perspective, Dr. Syed Tariq Sohail, Chairman of Sohail Trust, delivered a motivational address outlining the mission and vision of the institute. He encouraged students to pursue integrity, service and lifelong learning, reminding them that dentistry is not only a career but a public responsibility tied directly to community health and wellbeing.

The orientation sessions moved beyond ceremony to substance. Students were formally introduced to department-wise faculty members, building early academic connections. Mrs. Debra Lobo provided a comprehensive briefing on academic policies, curriculum structure and assessment standards, ensuring that Batch 28 begins its journey with clarity about institutional expectations and professional conduct.

The programme concluded with a vibrant group photo session, capturing the excitement of new students alongside the faculty who will guide them through their formative years. For JMDC, the arrival of BDS Batch 28 is not merely an intake of students; it is an investment in Pakistan’s future oral healthcare workforce, at a time when the country needs well-trained, ethical and community-oriented dentists more than ever.

By formally welcoming its newest cohort, JMDC signalled that dental education is not just about lectures and labs, but about building leaders who will serve patients with skill, empathy and scientific rigor. For Batch 28, this ceremony marks the first step in a journey that will define both their careers and the smiles of countless patients across Pakistan.
