Altamash Institute of Dental Medicine hosts 5th Annual Research Day 2025

KARACHI: The 5th Annual Research Day 2025 at Altamash Institute of Dental Medicine marked another significant milestone in Pakistan’s evolving dental research landscape. The event transformed the institute into a vibrant hub of academic exchange, intellectual curiosity, and innovation, drawing faculty members, researchers, and students from across leading dental institutions.

A gathering of leadership, vision, and academic mentorship

The event was honoured by the presence of Chief Guest Prof. Dr. Amjad Siraj Memon (S.I.), alongside Guests of Honour Prof. Dr. Muhammad Altamash and Dr. Shaheena Altamash, whose continued commitment to academic excellence remains deeply embedded in the institution’s ethos.

The program was conducted under the guidance of Principal Dr. Hasnain Sakrani and Head of the Research Development & Review Cell, Prof. Dr. Naseer Ahmed, reflecting the institute’s structured and forward-looking approach to research development.

Adding to the energy of the day, the Pakistan Dental Students Society, led by its President Shamim Ashraf, played an active role in coordination and engagement, reinforcing the importance of student-led academic initiatives.

Research at the forefront of dental education

A total of 30 research projects were presented through poster and podium presentations, showcasing a wide range of clinical, academic, and community-focused research themes. Participants represented several prominent institutions, including Hamdard Dental College, Bahria Dental College, Jinnah Medical & Dental College, Dow Dental College, Dow International Dental College, Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan Institute of Oral Health Sciences, and Aga Khan University Hospital.

The diversity and depth of the research presented reflected a growing emphasis on evidence-based dentistry, interdisciplinary inquiry, and academic rigor within Pakistan’s dental education system.

Esteemed judging panel ensures academic rigor

The evaluation process was overseen by a distinguished panel of judges, including Prof. Dr. Dinaz Gandhi, Prof. Dr. Afsheen Maqsood, Prof. Dr. Imran Moheet Alam, Dr. Zia Abbas, Dr. Muhammad Khawaja Hammad-ud-Din, and Prof. Dr. Sadia Hasan. Their expertise ensured objective assessment, meaningful feedback, and high academic standards across all presentations.

Celebrating excellence: podium and poster award winners

The day concluded with the recognition of outstanding research contributions. Podium presentation awards were secured by Dr. Sara Rafique (JMDC) and Dr. Anum Khan (DUHS), while poster awards were claimed by Areeba Tanwir and Muhammad Mutahar from Aga Khan University Hospital.

These achievements highlighted not only individual excellence but also the strong mentorship and research environments fostered by their respective institutions.
